The SD02 is a module dedicated for converting MIDI note and sync messages to usable CV. When a “Note On” message is received, the Gate output goes high** and the note value will be present at the Note output patch point. These are 0.1V/oct voltages that can be used to tune VCOs. The note velocity value will also be present at the Vel output. If a pitch bend message is received while the note is held, the pitch output will provide it. The Rng (range) knob dictates how far the pitch bend goes when the pitch bend wheel is at maximum or minimum. This range is always quantized to a semitone to stay in musical sense. When Rng is set to lowest, 1 semitone will be the pitch bend when the bend wheel is at maximum or minimum. You can mix the pitch voltage and the Note voltage using the S102 unity mixer and feed it to a VCO to provide the correct final pitch. The Mod output provides received modulation wheel messages as voltages. Ofcourse you can otherwise use all these voltages in any other weird way.

 

The AT (After Touch) CV output will provide either channel or polyphonic after touch voltages (whatever is received). Note that it is highly unlikely for both to occur concurrently in a musical setup, hence we use only one patch point for both. (if they do happen, the later voltage will override the earlier voltage).

 

The Glide determines the note glide length in seconds when playing in legato (i.e when a Note ON is received while a previous note is already being held, notes will transition smoothly). If Glide is at minimum, there will be NO glide effect. When at maximum, the glide effect will take 6 seconds. The Slide switch forces every note to glide from the previous note regardless of weather or not it was played in legato or not (i.e regardless if or not the previous note is still being held or has ended).

 

The Single/Mult switch determines what happens to the Gate output when a new note is received while one or more previous notes are being held (i.e Gate is already high). In Single mode, only the first note received will trigger a gate. In Mult (Multiple) mode, every note will trigger a gate. Notice that in Mult mode the gate has to be brought to low level and high again momentarly to make the trigger happen.

 

The Clock out sends clocking triggers when a MIDI clock messages are received. Notice that hardware and software that comply to the MIDI standard will send 24 clocks per quarter note (i.e per beat)*. This may or may not be what you want when syncing modular sequencers, so you may want to use a clock divider to slow down the clocking.

 

The Reset out provides two voltages to indicate the playing status. When a “Start” or “Continue” MIDI message is received, Reset gives low voltage. When a “Stop” MIDI message is received, Reset gives a high voltage**. There is no pause message in MIDI.

 

* Fast clocks have better/shorter latency when clock speeds changes.

**Low voltage is less than 0.15V. High voltage is more than 0.25V
