S212 VCF

Product Description

(This module is included in the System B)

The S212 VCF or as I like to call it “The gargle”, is a multi output, switchable 12db/24db slopes. Outputs include, LP, HP, BP and notch. The S212 is based on a well known biquad filter that has been heavily modified at SoloStuff to include an internally tamed 3rd order feedback loop.

The cutoff has two patch point inputs. One labeled Cut CV and the other is Frq CV. Cut CV is meant for key tracking. So it makes sense to connect it to note output (0.1V/oct) like from a MIDI to CV module or from a sequencer. The Frq CV is meant for modulation and has an attenuator knob attached to it.

When the feedback knob/CV is at lowest, the filter will respond in a rather clean manner. As feedback is increased, a “gargling” effect will start to occur first at lower frequencies. As feedback is increased further, the effect will increase in intensity and will progress to higher frequencies.

The S212 can be overdriven by increasing the input level, the effect works in combination with the resonance/Q to produce different saturation levels. At the highest resonance, the filter can self oscillate. Voltage control of both cutoff and resonance is available.

The cutoff frequency can range from about 1Hz to about 18Khz. These values can change slightly depending on the oversampling level and DAW sampling rate. High frequency modulation of cutoff can result in violent and aggressive sounds, unlike the S201 which give clean vowely sounds.
